Birchwood House in Putney is a beautiful family home that blends timeless elegance with modern comforts. For this project, Pia Design transformed key spaces with a focus on creating atmosphere, enhancing functionality, and reflecting the personality of the clients. Each room was carefully considered to serve both practical needs and create a welcoming, stylish environment.
The Art of Entertaining
Once a blank canvas, the Bar Room is now an elegant setting for intimate gatherings and sophisticated soirées. Soft beige Bauwerk walls provide the perfect backdrop for a bespoke oak veneer bar with graceful, arched bronze mirrors and custom brass shelving.
The L-shaped layout inspired a cosy seating nook around the corner, providing an intimate space for guests to relax and enjoy the surroundings, making this room both functional and luxurious.
A Cinematic Escape
The Media Room was transformed into a dramatic, immersive space where family movie nights and games are always in style. Dark navy walls and custom panelling set the mood, while a bespoke C-shaped sofa, plush area rug, and an array of soft furnishings create a cosy, inviting atmosphere.
A versatile games table that easily converts from pool table to air hockey to dining table brings an element of fun, making this room the ultimate destination for entertainment.
Calming Retreat
The Snug is a perfect example of how a space can feel both inviting and stylish. Featuring elegant panelling on the walls, the room embraces the classic elements of the home while creating a soft, intimate atmosphere. We chose to reuse the client's existing sofas, giving them new life by layering textured soft furnishings and introducing patterned fabrics. This not only added visual interest but also enhanced the warmth and comfort of the room. The result is a calming retreat, ideal for both quiet relaxation and casual gatherings.
A Tranquil Sanctuary
The Main Bedroom was designed with serenity and comfort in mind, working with the client’s existing furniture while introducing new pieces to enhance the space. Two armchairs create a perfect spot for quiet reflection or reading, while carefully chosen accessories and layered textures bring warmth and cohesion. The room is a perfect balance of restful luxury, providing the ideal retreat at the end of a busy day.
A Welcoming First Impression
The hallway sets the tone for the entire home with subtle, yet impactful design details. We revitalised the client’s existing vintage bench with a custom-designed cushion, adding comfort and style. A beautifully crafted Kasthall runner brings an additional layer of texture and colour, elevating the space and creating a warm, welcoming entrance that flows effortlessly into the rest of the home.
Every corner of Birchwood House has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the clients’ lifestyle, blending bespoke craftsmanship, timeless elegance, and modern functionality. Each room tells its own story, creating a home that is both luxurious and lived-in, personal and practical.
